Frequently Asked Questions

GETTING STARTED

How does a street poster campaign work?

Street posters are a form of outdoor advertising in which printed posters are pasted onto poster sites across high-foot-traffic streets, laneways, and hoardings.

You supply the artwork, or we can help you create it. We then print it in-house at our Melbourne or Sydney facility and have our crews install it at your chosen locations across Australia. Your campaign lives on the street for the booked period, putting your brand in front of people as they walk, commute and explore the city.

We have been running street poster campaigns across Australia since the 80s, making our entire process down pat from your first quote through to the final paste.

I have never run a poster campaign before. Can you help me plan one?

Of course, and many of our clients are running their first campaign. Tell us what you are promoting, the areas you would like to be seen in and roughly when, and our team will recommend the right formats, locations and campaign length to match your goals and budget.

We work with everyone from indie artists and local events through to national brands, and we tailor every campaign to suit. The easiest way to begin is to request a quote and share a few details about your idea.

What information should I have ready before I request a quote?

A sharper brief means a sharper quote. It helps to know the city or suburbs you would like to target, your preferred campaign dates and duration, the poster size or format you have in mind, and a rough budget or range. It is also useful to share your target audience and what success looks like, whether that is ticket sales, app downloads, foot traffic or brand awareness. If you are still shaping the idea, that is completely fine, and our team can guide you from there.

When should my campaign run?

Do you have a specific start date? How long would you like your campaign on the streets?

Most clients choose a 2- to 4-week campaign, depending on the event or product. Longer-term durations or extended periods can also be arranged.

Are street posters sustainable?

At Rock Posters, sustainability is at the forefront of everything we do. Our street posters and billboards are made from post-consumer waste (i.e., the stuff you put in the yellow bin) or FSC-certified paper using vegetable-based ink. Printing components are recycled or reused. All posters are recycled at the end of their life.

We are a recipient of the prestigious Premier’s Sustainability Award, where our contribution to the reduction of waste and litter has been recognised for making the music and entertainment industry more sustainable.

ARTWORK & SPECS

What poster formats are available?

We offer a wide range of poster sizes to suit different campaign needs.

Popular Sizes

Standard Poster (also known as a “2 sheeter”): 1000mm (W) x 1400mm (H)

Horizontal Double (also known as a “4 sheeter”): 2000mm (W) x 1400mm (H)

Larger Format Options

Billboards (larger than “supersites” or “megasites”): up to 6000mm (W) x 2800mm (H)

Smaller formats provide economical coverage and excellent street presence, while larger formats offer maximum impact and thus have higher media costs.

What artwork or creative requirements should I consider?

Is your artwork full colour, or do you require one- or two-colour printing? Will your campaign feature multiple creative executions? If using multiple creatives, would you prefer them displayed together or dispersed?

We recommend limiting the amount of variations; repetition works best!

Can I run more than one design in a single campaign?

Yes. Many campaigns feature multiple creative executions, and you can display them together or distribute them across your sites. It is worth knowing that repetition works hard on the street, so we usually suggest limiting the number of variations to keep your message landing. For longer bookings, we can also schedule a fresh design partway through to refresh the campaign.

What file format do you need for artwork?

Please supply your artwork as a high-resolution PDF. Set it up in CMYK colour, since that is what we print in, and supply files at 25% of the final poster size at 300dpi. Convert all fonts and images to curves and outlines, flatten your layers, and make sure the file is unlocked. You can download our full artwork specifications for the exact setup of every format.

Can you help with poster design?

Yes. If you would like a hand getting your artwork right, our team can guide you on layout, legibility and what reads well from a distance on a busy street. Our design tips page is a great place to start when you are creating posters built to stop people in their tracks.

PRICING

What budget should I have in mind?

We work with everyone—from indie artists to global touring acts, from start-ups to major FMCG brands.

Providing a budget or range (e.g., $2K, $10K, $20K) helps us tailor suitable campaign options and maximise value for your spend.

What affects the price of a campaign?

A few factors shape the final cost. The biggest is the number of poster sites you book, along with the cities and suburbs you want to reach, since premium high-traffic locations carry higher media value. Poster size matters too, with smaller formats offering economical coverage and larger formats, such as billboards, incurring higher production and media costs. Campaign length plays a part, as longer runs on the street cost more than short bursts. Your print choices add up as well, including the number of designs, the size of the print run, the paper and finish, and whether you print in full colour, a one or two-colour run, or a specialty look. Booking several cities together can sometimes offer better value as a package, so it is always worth asking.

Is there a minimum campaign size or spend?

We work with a broad range of campaign sizes, from compact local runs through to large national bookings. Rather than a single fixed minimum, the right starting point depends on the formats and locations you choose. Tell us your budget and what you would like to achieve, and we will let you know the most effective campaign we can build within it.

CAMPAIGN MANAGEMENT

What details should I provide about my campaign?

Sharing the following information helps us design the most effective campaign:

  • Who is your target audience?
  • Do you have specific goals or KPIs beyond ROI?
  • Are there strategic objectives we should consider?
  • Will this outdoor campaign be standalone or part of a broader marketing plan?

How long should my campaign run?

Most clients run a campaign for two to four weeks, which suits the build-up to an event, launch or release. Longer and extended bookings can be arranged, and some clients schedule back-to-back runs with a fresh design to keep the momentum going. We will recommend a duration based on what you are promoting and when you are promoting it.

Can I see proof that my posters went up?

Yes. We provide post-campaign verification so you can see your campaign live on the street, with photos of a selection of your posters in place and a record of where they ran. It is a great way to report results back to your team or stakeholders. You can also browse our gallery to see the kinds of campaigns we install around the country. Some of our clients also film and photograph the installation of the posters; we can help with that as well.

BILLBOARDS

What is the difference between street posters and billboards?

Street posters and billboards are both outdoor formats, with the difference coming down to scale and placement. Street posters are pasted at street level across laneways, hoardings, and high-foot-traffic strips, making them ideal for reaching people up close as they walk and commute. Billboards are much larger and positioned for viewing from a distance by passing traffic, delivering broad reach and big visual impact. Many campaigns combine the two, using street posters for density and billboards for standout.

Do you offer digital billboards?

Our core strength is printed outdoor advertising, including street posters and large format billboards. If you are interested in digital placements, share your campaign details with us, and we will recommend the best options to meet your goals.
